Colette was the wife or girlfriend of Gregoire, the owner or manager of a ritzy night club in Nice, France. What Gregoire did not know was that Colette was having an affair with Robert, a doorman who worked for him at the night club.
When Emma Frost was still a teenager, barely 18 (or perhaps still only 17), her family vacationed in Nice, France. Emma wanted to go into the night club that Gregoire ran, but Robert dutifully blocked her way.
Then Emma Frost used her burgeoning telepathic powers to read his mind and pressure him into letting her into the club, lest she reveal more of his secrets.
Emma told Robert: "Robert. May I call you Robert? Gregoire doesn't know you've been sleeping with Colette does he? Otherwise he would have fired you when the affair started. Am I warm?"
