In Exiles #1 (Aug. 1993), Catapult and Mustang (two members of the super-hero team known as the Exiles) went on a mission to find Timothy Halloran, a person who potentially had the Theta virus which would turn him into a super-powered "Ultra." But two villains (Bruut and Bloodbath), who were working for Malcolm Kort, were trying to capture Timothy. A battle between the two Exiles and the two villains ensued. Timothy's mother was an innocent bystander, but she died from the violence of the battle.
Although Bruut was defeated, Bloodbath escaped with Timothy. He was eventually rescued by the Exiles and became a member of the team.
