Dexter Baxendale was at a costume party in a posh mansion, investigating the theft of secret documents on behalf of Caleb McCallum. At one point, Dexter Baxendale donned the Sherlock Holmes costume that McCallum had been wearing at the party. Preston Giles murdered Baxendale, thinking he was McCallum. Eventually Jessica Fletcher, who was also in attendance at the costume party, solved the mystery of who murdered Baxendale and his killer was brought to justice.
