An injured duck landed on Gilligan's Island. Food was scarce at that time. The castaways debated whether to eat it or try to use it as a messenger. Imagining himself something of an Old West sheriff, Gilligan appointed himself the duck's protector.
An actual duck was used in the filming of this episode, but famed voice actor Mel Blanc provided the voice of the duck.
