Rick Grimes drove a police car from his native Cynthiana, Kentucky toward Atlanta, Georgia, where he hoped to find his family. Not long after passing the Tennessee-Georgia border, the car ran out of gas and Rick couldn't find a working gas pump. From the highway he say a farmhouse. He went to the farmhouse (where he found a devoutly religious family who committed suicide after being infected by the zombie plague). Rick looked in the farm's barn, hoping to find gas. Instead, he found a healthy horse. He saddled the horse and rode it into Atlanta.
Unfortunately, after riding into Atlanta, Rick was soon surrounded by countless zombies. They attacked the horse he was on and began devouring it. Rick managed to escape as the zombies were distracted by the food the now-dead horse provided them with.
