An unnamed restaurant worker was a close friend of Mario, the apparent owner of a restaurant in downtown New York City. The restaurant looks like an inexpensive Italian restaurant or eatery. At least one source described it as a pizza restaurant. A chalkboard inside the restaurant proclaimed that the special of the day was "Salami Sandwich with Clam." The unnamed restaurant worker told Mario at one point that "the only thing you can smell is yesterday's calzone." This refers to a dish traditionally served in Italian restaurants generally as well as in Italian pizza restaurants specifically.

Mario and the unnamed restaurant worker began work at the restaurant fairly early in the morning, speaking casually and freely about movies they liked and the virtue of DVDs versus VHS tapes.

Together they found Spider-Man's unconscious or nearly-unconscious body on a heap of trash in the alley behind their eating establishment. Mario, the unnamed restaurant worker and Spider-Man were all attacked by Spider-Man's arch-enemy, the Green Goblin. Spider-Man managed to become alert long enough to save the restaurant worker and his colleague Mario and then defeat the Green Goblin.

The unnamed restaurant worker was apparently Italian, based on the way he was drawn and the fact that he worked in what appeared to be an authentic New York City Italian restaurant or pizza restaurant. He wore a prominent Christian cross necklace around his neck.
