Gambit was looking for something that could help him find out more about a bizarre parasite that emerged from a device he stole from Borya Cich. His search led him to the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington, D.C. When Gambit broke into the museum at night, he found two unconscious people (a man and a woman) lying on the floor. It was clear that these two people worked at the museum.

Soon thereafter, Gambit encounters the mysterious woman he met the day before at Cich's mansion: Joelle. (He does not yet know her name, so he thinks of her as "Femme Mysterieuse", or the "Mysterious Woman.") It is clear that Joelle knocked the two people out when she broke into the museum. Gambit sees that Joelle is carrying something, clearly something she is stealing from the Museum. He asks her what she has there, but before she can answer, a guard appears, looking for "Dr. Studdard," who is apparently one of the two unconscious people.
