Ruben was on of the uniformed S.H.I.E.L.D. agent stationed at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters when a SHIELD command center was set up there. Ruben was a key assistant to Nick Fury in X-Men Forever (vol. 2) #7 (Nov. 2009) when a 3-man SHIELD team was attacked by a gigantic Sentinel robot in the Andes Mountains.

Ruben is seen in a few panels.

In panel 2 on page 2, Nick Fury says: "Why're we depending on three guys on the ground, people? S.H.I.E.L.D.'s got more hardware than Home Depot, what is it telling us?"

Fury's assistant Ruben answers, explaining: "This is a weird neighborhood, Colonel. Weather and topography makes it hard to get effective intel, from the air or from orbit. We're lucky we have a radio signal. Remote data streams are very rough, and virtually useless."

Ruben's name is identified in panel 1 on page 6. After losing contact with the Andes team (which has been killed by a Sentinel), Nick Fury says: "Why is this a blank screen, Ruben?"

Ruben answers: "It's the location, Director. That stretch of the Andes has always been a dead zone for any kind of electronic surveillance. Radio communication's difficult -- radar and the like downright impossible, even from orbit. The storm isn't helping, either."

Charles Xavier tells Nick Fury and Jean Grey that, with his telepathic powers, he felt Tommy Juniper die. He says his instinct tells him that the other two SHIELD agents on the scene are dead, too.

In panel 4 on page 6, Nick Fury says: "So what're you telling me, people, that we've got nothing?"

Ruben says: "Telemetry's incomplete, sir, and badly scrambled. All we can say for sure is that it's big, and nasty."
