Leonard was one of many men who worked for Norman Osborn. Leonard was one of a few assistants to Osborn who helped him get into his "Green Goblin" costume for the first time in a long time. After Osborn was attired as the Green Goblin, he flew off, vowing to confront Peter Parker (Spider-Man) one last time. As Osborn flew off, he left a few of his pumpkin bombs, which exploded and killed Leonard and the other men present.
Clearly Osborn was not an ideal employer. Leonard worked for Osborn, who most thinking people realized had become a sociopath. Leonard apparently paid for this mistake with his life.
