Note: delayed Jack Magniconte because he bet on football game

Jack Magniconte saved an airplane full of passengers from a stewardess who snapped and hijacked the airplane. After the plane landed safely at its intended destination (Washington, D.C.), Jack was delayed unnecessarily by a bad cop who was simply trying to make him late for a football game he was supposed to play in against the Washington Centurions. The only reason the cop delayed Jack was that the cop had bet $50.00 on the game - against Jack's team, the New York Smashers. The cop hoped by making Jack (the Smashers' star quarterback) late, he could give his team (the Centurions) more of an edge.

Jack ended up getting to the stadium, far later than he should have arrived. He did not have time to warm up and adjust his body. He was still somewhat revved up from stopping the hijacking. He ended up doing more harm than good in the game, and the Smashers did indeed lose. Most of Jack's delay had to do with the hijacking itself, and not the bad cop. But the cop was being a jerk and his actions certainly didn't help.
