Los Angeles-based gangster and criminal mastermind Nick trask killed his own bodyguard. He then framed one of his rivals, gangster Lou Monkton, for the murder. Monkton was "no saint," but he didn't commit this murder, and his attorney Jennifer Walters was determined to defend him in court. She investigated the murder of Nick Trask's rival.
In an attempt to gather more information, she spread the rumor that she had proof that Nick Trask committed the murder. Trask's men shot her, which led to her getting a life-saving blood transfusion from her cousin, Bruce Banner (secretly the Hulk). This led to Walters becoming the super-powered heroine known as She-Hulk.
