At a time when the X-Men disbanded (at the request of the FBI), Jean Grey started doing some work as a model. During this time, she did a photo shoot (wearing a bikini) at Candy's photography studio in New York City.
Candy's Studio was co-owned by Candy and Mr. Dane, who were both present at the photo shoot. Despite being much older than her, Mr. Dane made a romantic pass at Jean, asking her out to dinner. Jean's boyfriend Scott Summers (secretly Cyclops) arrived at that moment and put a halt to Mr. Dane's attempt.
