Criminal Blackie Dolan thought that Mike Danovitch was the "the slickest con man this side of Manhattan." When Dolan observed a real film crew filming a bank robbery scene at a Bank of America location in Hollywood, Dolan hatched a plan to pose as a film crew and rob a bank. He thought of Danovitch as right man to help him execute his plan.

Later Dolan led a group of real criminals posing as actors and a film crew. Dolan posed as the leader of the robbers. A "film director" wearing dark glasses led the fake film crew. Presumably Danovitch himself was the man posing as the "director."
