One source identifies Maximum Security #1 (Nov. 2000) as the first appearance of Frisco Pike. Pike is a member of the S.T.A.R.S. team, and S.T.A.R.S. definitely appears prominently in this issue. But after carefully reviewing this issue, it is clear that there is no reference to anybody named Frisco or Pike. But if one looks carefully at panel 1 on page 9, one can imagine that a S.T.A.R.S. operative preparing to cart the captive Piledriver away is meant to be Pike. If the core S.T.A.R.S. team was indeed designed before the creation of Maximum Security #1 (as appears to be the case, as a couple other members are clearly depicted and named), then it is quite possible that Pike was designed and intentionally depicted. Maybe somebody had inside information that Pike was intended to be one of the characters in this panel. Or it could be that an indexer was overly imaginative. We regard U.S.Agent (vol. 2) #1 (Aug. 2001) as the actual first appearance of Pike. But we will mention Maximum Security #1 as a possible previous cameo appearance.
