One of Tomar-Re's greatest challenges came when the death god Nekron used the spirit of Tomar-Re's late father to try to convince him to surrender. Tomar-Re was tempted, but he kept his oath and destroyed the spirit of his father in order to persevere in the conflict. Understandably, this act caused Tomar-Re great spiritual distress.

After he died, Tomar Re was depicted dwelling in the afterlife as conceived by the Xudarian religion.
