Business wheeler-dealer Theo "the Zapper" Zappa appropriates a magic wand from an alien named Pajna Darr and uses it to deplete the Earth's oceans of plankton. As the JLA struggles to halt an ecological disaster, they follow the Zapper to the planet Kalyarna, a futuristic civilization whose advanced magic is more powerful than even Superman.
