Willow's background has been described as "strangely similar to the story of Mantis."

Mantis is a character who appeared in Marvel's Avengers comic book series. She was raised by the by the Priests of Pama, a pacifistic religious sect that branched off from mainstream Kree religion. Willow was, of course, not raised by Priests of Pama nor does she have anything to do with the Kree, a Marvel-only alien species. But is possible that there are overtly religious aspects to the character.
