Rick Grimes: "What makes you so sure we're even going to be rescued? Donna almost died yesterday. What if it was one of the kids? What if it was Carl? Nobody was prepared for this, Shane. You think those girls know how to fight?"
Note: The "girls" Rick refers to here presumably are Amy, Andrea and Carol, the only women in their group at the time aside from Donna and Rick's wife Lori..
The Walking Dead #7 (Apr. 2004): "Miles Behind Us, Part 1", page 7, panel 5:
Dale (to Rick): "But what I'm getting at is that everyone in the camp was starting to get wary of Shane. The attacks, Amy--Jim... We are ready to move this camp, Rick. We let Shane call the shots because he was a cop..."
Note: Dale alludes to the recent zombie killings of Amy and Jim, which he partially blames Shane for, because Shane insisted they stay close to Atlanta instead of looking for someplace safer.
The Walking Dead #9 (June 2004): "Miles Behind Us, Part 3", pages 2, 4:
(pg. 2) Rick Grimes (to Lori, about Carl): "I can't imagine how hard all this has been on him. Shane-- Jim and Amy... All of it. Hell, Lori... I don't know how well I'm coping with it."
(pg. 4) Donna: "I was just thinking about Andrea and Dale... They both lost someone they loved... Someone very close to them."
The Walking Dead #10 (July 2004): "Miles Behind Us, Part 4", page 13, panels 1, 3:
Andrea: "What? I don't know what it's like to LOSE someone?! I just lost my f---ing sister! I think I know a little about the grieving process. I know EXACTLY what you're going through! I shut down when I lost Amy. I didn't speak for days..."
Allen: "My WIFE just DIED!"
Andrea: "And my SISTER died, and Shane died, and Jim died!..."
