Kermit the Frog's earliest known appearance was in a 5-minute puppet show featured that was a 1955 episode of the WRC-TV television show "Sam and Friends." WRC-TV was an NBC-owned and NBC-affiliated TV station in the Washington D.C. area.

"Sam and Friends" ran for a total of 86 episodes. Each episode was 5 minutes long. The show appeared twice daily. The first episode of the series appeared on television on 9 May 1955. Kermit was one of the main characters on the show, and we believe he appeared on the debut episode, but this needs to be confirmed.
