This non-fiction book is also known as: Story of My Life or Histoire de ma vie jusqu'a l'an 1797 or History of my Life until the year 1797. "Story of My Life" is the English translation of the original French title of this autobiography/memoir: Histoire de ma vie. The full title of this book is Histoire de ma vie jusqu'a l'an 1797 (or "History of my Life until the year 1797"). The book actually only covers Casanova's life until 1974.

Note that although Casanova was Italian, he wrote his book in French, which was the dominant language of the upper class at that time.

The complete book is actually 12 volumes long, approximately 3500 pages.

1822 was the the first time that portions of the book were published, although the writing had actually been completed almost 3 decades earlier. The first publication was actually a German translation of the original French version, published under the title Aus den Memoiren des Venetianers Jacob Casanova de Seingalt, oder sein Leben, wie er es zu Dux in Bohmen niederschried. Nach dem Original-Manuscript bearbeitet von Wilhelm von Schutz. The book was not published in French until 1825.
