This epic poem is also known as: Fingal, an Ancient Epic Poem in Six Books, together with Several Other Poems composed by Ossian, the Son of Fingal, translated from the Gaelic Language.
This book collects James Macpherson's translations of epic poems which he claimed he discovered in ancient sources. Modern scholars generally disbelieve Macpherson's claims that the poems came from ancient sources and assume he wrote them based on local folk legends. Macpherson never showed anybody the original sources he claimed to have in his possession.
