This record is for the complete "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero" series 1 toy line. Hasbro worked with Marvel Comics to conceive of the entire G.I. Joe toy line, which was accompanied by a comic book series and an animated TV series. The G.I. Joe military unit and their arch-nemesis, Cobra, was introduced when this toy line was released in 1982. The G.I. Joe team and Cobra can not really be said to have "appeared first" as part of any single toy, as they were part of the toy line as a whole.
