The Departed is a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong feature film Infernal Affairs, the but this remake is set in the United States. With new settings, nationalities and names and various plot changes, the characters in The Departed can be said to appear first in this film, although many of them have antecedents in Infernal Affairs.
