Marvel's 4-issue limited series that began with a November 2004 cover date can be identified as Warlock volume 3. This numbering requires some stipulations, however, because this is really Marvel's sixth series titled Warlock.
In order to arrive at the "volume 3" numbering, we ignore the 1982 and 1992 series (6 issues each) that consisted entirely of reprint stories starring Adam Warlock. We are also ignoring Marvel's 9-issue series (begun in 1999) that starred an entirely unrelated character, the techno-organic alien named Warlock who is a member of the New Mutants.
Sources that ignore the series starring the New Mutant Warlock but count the reprint series which star Adam Warlock identify the 2004-launched limited series as Warlock volume 5.
With those criteria in place, we identify this as Warlock volume 3 because it is the third Marvel series titled Warlock which stars Adam Warlock in newly published stories.
