This is Part 1 of a 5-part story arc that reveals Nightcrawler's true parentage, including the fact that he is the son of the mutant Azazel, who is devil-like seems to lead a group of demons from Hell. But this issue itself has very little in the way of explicitly religious content.

The heart of the story is a conversation between Charles Xavier and his step-brother, Cain Marko (the Juggernaut). Considering Marko's past as a brutish villain and his many issues with Xavier, this turns out to be a surprisingly mature and productive conversation. The pair get a lot off their chests, and are ultimately able to talk through their differences and frustrations rather than engage in super-heroic battle, either with each other through the X-Men as Xavier's proxy.
