This is the last issue of the New X-Men series. New X-Men (vol. 2) #46 was the 12th chapter in the massive "Messiah Complex" crossover event, which was published in all of the main X-Men titles. The conclusion of this storyline brought a shake-up in the X-Men titles. One major change was the cancellation of the New X-Men series. The series was essentially continued in a new series, Young X-Men, which launched a few weeks later.
