This publication is also known as: Doctor Strange: Master of the Mystic Arts #1.

The "first volume" of Doctor Strange comics actually begins with issue #169. This is because the Doctor Strange series continued directly from Strange Tales #168. The Strange Tales comic book series had for many years (since issue #135) been a "split book" format, featuring stories about "Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D." as well as Doctor Strange.

Doctor Strange #169 (June 1968) marks the first time the Sorcerer Supreme starred in his own self-titled series.

The covers of this series feature a sub-title under the "Doctor Strange" logo: "Master of the Mystic Arts." It might be possible to construe the title of this issue as Doctor Strange: Master of the Mystic Arts #1, but the actual title of the series is simply Doctor Strange.
