The issue number appears on the cover as "1 1/2" (i.e., one and a half").

This issue was actually published decades after the original Avengers #1, but it was created as if it was a story that takes place between issues #1 and #2, and was intentionally created in the style of the earliest Avengers stories. The issue even features fake parody ads based on the advertisements that appeared in Marvel comics in 1963.
