When Matt Murdock (the future Daredevil) was just a young boy, one of his closest friends was Johnny Squarejohn. They were friends, that is, until Johnny joined a street gang known as "The Barons." After that, Johnny turned into something of a thug and tormented Matt.
Later, as an adult, Johnny became a better man and actually helped Daredevil out against a horde of little girl robots sent to kill him.
The Barons gang was named after an actual street gang that story writer Harlan Ellison once joined.
