Erishkigel was very long-lived. In ancient times she had been mistaken for the ancient Greco-Roman goddess Hecate. She was also mistaken for the Babylonian death goddess Erishkigel. It is unclear if "Erishkigel" is this Deviant character's real birth name, or a name she was eventually known by after she was confused with the actual Babylonian goddess.

As villains go, Erishkigel was quite ambitious. She managed to steal the Starbrand from Quasar's friend Kayla Ballantine. This was an immense source of power which originated in the New Universe but was brought to mainstream Marvel Earth by Quasar. With the Starbrand, Erishkigel attempted to conquer the entire multiverse. She fought the Living Tribunal, one of the most powerful cosmic entities in existence. As part of her conflict with the Living Tribunal, Erishkigel chose Quasar as her champion to do battle with the Silver Surfer. When Erishkigel lost, she killed herself.
