In panel 5 on page 6 of the "Trail of the Talking Mask!" in Detective Comics #335 (Jan. 1965), the story's featured villain -- the Make-Up Man -- contemplates his own amazing skill at acting and make-up. He thinks to himself, "I can make myself up to look like Rip Van Winkle or Hamlet or Cyrano de Bergerac! Any identity can be pierced -- but if no one knows what I really look like -- no eyewitneses can ever accuse me of a crime!"
