Dmitri Fortunov was the son of the Baron Tristan Mangegi de Sabbat of Latveria. Many years ago, Doctor Doom deposed the Baron.
Years later, his grandson (Dmitri) thought he saw his chance when, post-Onslaught, Doctor Doom vanished from Earth. Dmitri tried to take over the castle that was the seat of Latverian power. Unfortunately for Dmitri, his plan to re-take Castle Doom didn't go as planned and he ended up trapped in Liddleville. Dmitri Fortunov remained there until later he was freed by X-Force.
Dmitri Fortunov was then inadvertently sent into the past via Doctor Doom's time platform.
