When Emma Frost was a teenager and her telepathic powers were just beginning to emerge, she saw her father with another woman (a mistress) and took photos of them together. Emma's mother Hazel found the camera and saw the pictures, but made excuses for her husband's philandering ways. She did so, that is, until her daughter Emma touched her and psychically made her see the truth that Emma knew.
Unfortunately, knowing the truth about her husband caused Hazel to go into shock. She had some kind of seizure and went into a coma. She had to be hospitalized. Dr. Upjohn treated Hazel Frost while she was in the hospital.
