In the first episode of the TV series "Hostages," Duncan Carlisle leads a crew who take the family of Dr. Ellen Sanders hostage, in order to pressure Dr. Sanders to kill the U.S. President during an upcoming operation. Dr. Sanders' daughter is Morgan Sanders, a high school student. In this episode, Morgan takes a home pregnancy test and confirms her suspicions: she is pregnant. We learn that she has secretly been sleeping with her boyfriend, high school dropout Burke Boyd. He is the father of the unborn child.

This is very early in Morgan's pregnancy. She desperately does not want her parents to know about this. Duncan Carlisle catches Morgan with the pregnancy test. He hides the test for her when her parents come around. Morgan asks Carlisle to keep her secret, which he agrees to do. But he expects her to help him pressure her mom to go through with killing the President.

When Burke Boyd learns from Morgan that she is pregnant, he decides he wants to help take care of her and the baby. He goes to the Sanders home. When he sees Carlisle there, he mistakenly thinks that Carlisle is Morgan's father. Burke tells him that he has a good construction job and he would be able to take care of Morgan if they were get married. Burke clearly wants to make a family with Morgan, telling her "father" that he loves her. Burke clearly wants to be a responsible father.
