This issue features the first appearance of the "Gang of Four," a group of Daredevil's greatest enemies, who band together to break out of prison and get revenge against Daredevil. The group consists of The Owl (who leads them), Stilt-Man (Wilbur Day), Gladiator (Wylie Lemmick), and Copperhead (Lawrence Chesney). The Gang of Four also help the Owl go to war against rival crime boss Wilson Fisk (the Kingpin).

The Gang of Four is the principle villainous threat faced by Daredevil and Spider-Man in the 4-issue Daredevil/Spider-Man limited series. After that, the group is disbanded.
