Many refs. to demons. X-Men spend issue in dimension of Azazel, a devil-like mutant who claims to be the actual devil. His realm is populated by demons, or mutants who belive they're demons.

Azazel: "I am an advanced human. A 'mutant from biblical times,' as you say. I challenged 'God' by imposing rule and dominion and enslaving or removing the toxicity of humans. By those acts I 'fell from grace' and was cast out of the 'kingdom of heaven'-- the remnants of the archaeological site you call 'Isla Des Demonas' --cast out by 'angels'"

Azazel: "Was it Arthur C. Clarke or Isaac Asimov who said: 'Any science sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic'?"
Nightcrawler: "I think that was the Scarlet Witch."

Nightcrawler: "So, what are you saying, Azazel? First you say you're 'Satan' --and no offense, your behavior certainly bears that out -- but now you're saying -- what? That you're NOT Satan? Or that Satan is a scientific-- Ich fasse es nicht. You're a mutant from biblical times!" [more]
The devil-like mutant Azazel claims to be THE devil of religious lore, including Satan referred to in the Bible. Extensive references throughout issue.

Nightcrawler: "So what makes you think any of us can open another portal all by ourselves-- at least large enough for you and your army?"
Azazel: "It was done once before... the leader of the angels accomplished it alone, when he cast us here."
When Azazel refers to the "leader of the angels" who cast him and his followers from Earth and send to them to a dimension they claim is Hell... Is Azazel referring to Jesus Christ?

Azazel: "Your stepmother, Margali, used to open it from one side while I opened it from the other. We did it by accident the first time, and she believed she had summoned a demon. I encouraged that belief by offering her help with her 'magick' and we became allies... and eventually much more."
Nightcrawler: "You're a real Cassanova, Azazel."

Pg. 9: Ydrazil struggles to remove his axe from Professor Dibble's ribs, after killing him. Angel asks angrily what right Azazel has to murder a man like that. More.

While Juggernaut battles Alpha Flight, Squid-Boy urgest his mother to go to the home of their neighbors - the Spencers.

Azazel: "Kia Ora, Kiwi Black. Is that not the traditional Maori greeting? Kia Ora? It's the one I learned from your mother... along with a few other choice phrases."
