[This episode begins immediately after the previous episode, which was "To Be Continued." After getting married, Lois Lane and Clark Kent are at Clark Kent's apartment. Clark is in his bed, with his shirt off, waiting for Lois Lane to come out of the bathroom. Clark Kent is very much looking forward to experiencing marital intimacy for the very first time. He is still a virgin, having been morally chaste and saved himself for his wedding night.]

[In the last moments of the previous episode, however, we saw that Lois Lane is actually a clone. She is not the real Lois! Clark does not know this. Now the Lois Lane clone walks from the bathroom toward where Clark is lying in bed. Will he consummate his marriage with an impostor?]

Timecode: 0 minutes, 42 seconds: After scenes from the previous episode are shown, this scene resumes with the Lois Lane clone emerging from the bathroom. She is wearing a white nightgown, alluring yet tasteful. Clark Kent looks extremely content and happy when he sees her. He puts the wine glass he is holding down on the night stand. He pushes the quilt aside a bit to make a space for her to slip into bed next to him. He takes her hand in his.

Clark Kent: Hello, Mrs. Kent.

[The Lois Lane clone sits down on the edge of the bed. Clark Kent leans in and kisses her passionately on the lips. As far as Clark is concerned, this is prelude to his losing his virginity to the woman he loves with all his heart.]

[Clark stops kissing Lois and looks at her. He touches her shoulder and moves his finger along the shoulder fabric of her nightgown. He is thining about pushing her nightgown down and off of her.]

Clark Kent: We have been through so much to get to this place. But none of that matters.

[Clark Kent pushes aside the fabric on the Lois Lane clone's shoulder. He gently touches the bare skin of her shoulder. Then Clark pulls away a bit and looks at "Lois Lane" in the eyes.]

Clark Kent: It's perfect.

[The Lois Lane clone casually pulls the fabric of her nightgown back over her shoulder, covering up the skin that Clark made bare moments earlier.]

Lois Lane clone: Are you as tired as I am?

[The Lois Lane clone turns her back to Clark and lies down, putting her head on her pillow. Clark leans over her, surprised, confused by her behavior.]

Clark Kent: What?

Lois Lane clone: Oh, it's just the last few days, with all the wedding preparations and everything, I'm just . . . exhausted.

Clark Kent: Uh . . . I'm not that tired.

[Clark smiles and moves closer to her, as if to kiss her. But this woman is increasingly looking like she is really not in the mood for what Clark naturally has in mind. The Lois Lane clone puts her hand gently on Clark's cheek, as if to console him.]

Lois Lane clone: Oh, Clark . . . I'm sorry. I just don't think I can keep my eyes open.

[The Lois Lane clone turns away from Clark, so that her back is to him. She closes her eyes pulls the quilt over her a bit, and settles in to sleep.]

Lois Lane clone: Good night.

[Clark is dumbounded. He stares at her.]

Clark Kent: Uh . . .

[Clark Kent gently taps "Lois" on her shoulder.]

Clark Kent: Lois?

[Suddenly lightning lighs up the sky outside the apartment, and also pours through the window, lighting up the room accompanied by the sound of thunder. The lightning signifies Lex Luthor, and the fact that what is in effect here is an evil that he has perpetuated. Lex Luthor is the man who created the Lois Lane clone. Clark Kent, of course, does not realize any of this. He thinks is this really his beloved Lois Lane. He is a patient and loving man, apparently, for rather than pressing the matter, he merely massages the woman's shoulder for a moment, says good-night, and lies still to go to sleep.]

Clark Kent: Good night.

[With her back to Clark, Clark Kent can not see when the apparently sleeping Lois Lane's eyes fly open at the next lightning strike. With the lightning strikes, sounds of thunder, and ominous musical underscore, the Lois Lane clone looks creepy, even frightening.]

BELOW: Clark Kent resigns himself to remaining a virgin for at least a little while longer, as he gives up on trying to persuade his new wife to consummate their marriage on their honeymoon night:

Timecode: 2 minutes, 43 seconds: Cut to the outside of an old, boarded-up building in a run down section of Metropolis. Perhaps it is an old church. The gargoyles that serve as ornamentation for the old building are reminiscent of the imagery on the stone mausoleum that once housed the "dead" body of Lex Luthor in previous episodes. Homeless people, trash, and abandoned junk vehicles make it clear that this is a "Skid Row" part of town, perhaps the Suicide Slum district. The same lightning that lit up Clark Kent's room is lighting up this scene as well. A black stretch limousine pulls up to this building. The chapel coordinator from Lois Lane's wedding gets out of the vehicle.]

Chapel coordinator: Welcome to your new home. Oh, I know it doesn't look like much, but I'm sure you'll find it cozy.

[The man is addressing somebody still inside the vehicle. Camera cut to show us who it is: Lois Lane, unconscious, lying on the back seat of the limousine.]

[Cut to a few moments later. Lois Lane, still bound and gagged, and now tied to a chair, wakes up. She is inside the old run-down building, held captive. She looks around and sees, a few feet away, the chapel coordinator looking into a mirror. Various bottles of chemicals and stage makeup are on the counter and ledge next to the mirror.]

BELOW: The real Lois Lane has been taken captive by Lex Luthor, who had been disguised as the chapel coordinator. Lex Luthor declares his all-consuming love for Lois Lane:

Chapel coordinator: The whole time I was away I was consumed by the memory of your beauty. I can assure you, the memory did not do you justice.

[The man unloosens his tie. He removes his wig. He uses some chemicals and other items to unfix the mask on his face. He then pulls a very life-like mask away from his face revealing that he is not, in fact, the real chapel coordinator, but is actually Lex Luthor! Lex Luthor stares in shock. Lex turns turns to look at her. Ominous underscore music is heard. End of scene. Roll opening credits.]

[This episode proceeds on two fronts: Clark Kent deals with a "Lois Lane," his newly married wife, who acts very strange all of the sudden and seems uninterested in sexual intimacy. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor continues to declare his undying love the real Lois Lane, who is his quite unwilling captive. Only after much frustration and confusion does Clark Kent figure out that the woman he is spending time with is not the real Lois Lane. Eventually the real Lois Lane manages to escape from Lex Luthor.]

Timecode: 5 minutes, 11 seconds: Morning in Clark Kent's apartment. The Lois Lane clone is awake, in the kitchen, still wearing her white nightgown. She eats another live frog, obtained from a plastic container she keeps in her purse.

Clark Kent: [calling out from the bedroom] Lois, you out there?

[Clark Kent emerges from the bedroom, wearing a bathrobe. He just woke up. The Lois Lane clone stands up and faces him, a somewhat blank (or perhaps simply "neutral") look on her face.]

Clark Kent: Hi.

Lois Lane clone: [smiling] Hi. [turns and walks toward the kitchen counter] Would you like some coffee? I know you like coffee. It's one of the many, many things I know about you.

[It is clear to viewers that the Lois Lane clone has been trained and rehearsed by Lex Luthor, to prepare her to pretend she is Lois Lane. She has memorized facts about Clark Kent, at least facts that are known to Lex Luthor.]

Clark Kent: Yeah. Right.

[Clark Kent walks up to the Lois Lane clone as she looks in a cabinet. He gently touches her back.]

Clark Kent: Lois, can we talk about last night?

Lois Lane clone: [making small-talk, ignoring his question] Warmer than normal for this time of year.

Clark Kent: Well, it depends on how you define "warm"?

[Clark Kent is thinking about the cold manner in which he was treated the night before, the night that was supposed to have been his unforgettable wedding night. But instead, his new wife just went to sleep, failing to fulfill his long-held expectations.]

Lois Lane clone: [frustrated] Where are the cups? Where are the cups?! Where are they??

Clark Kent: They're right over there, to the right. We switched them around a couple of weeks ago. Don't you remember?

Lois Lane clone: Of course I remember. Why wouldn't I remember? To the right, you say. [Looks in another cabinet, to the right.] Oh, yes, there they are. Just where I left them.

Clark Kent: Lois, we waited . . . and waited . . . for our honeymoon night. For a long time. Because we wanted it to be one of the most special and memorable nights of our lives.

Lois Lane clone: [handing Clark a cup of coffee] Are you saying it wasn't?

Clark Kent: You fell asleep.

Lois Lane clone: [defensive] I was tired.

Clark Kent: I understand that. I just-- I just hope that it wasn't something else. That's all.

Lois Lane clone: Of course not. Honey, it was just a big day for me. Lots of pressure.

Clark Kent: You're right. Things will just get better when we get to Hawaii.

Lois Lane clone: Oh, that's another thing. I cancelled the hotel in Hawaii.

Clark Kent: What?!

Lois Lane clone: Well, with Lex Luthor on the loose, I didn't think it was a good time to leave the paper. I didn't think you'd mind.

Clark Kent: Lois, this is the kind of thing that we should talk about first.

Lois Lane clone: Is it? How would I know? I've never been married. You have to give me time.

Clark Kent: We both need time. That's why I think Hawaii is such a good idea.

Lois Lane clone: [puts down a magazine she was looking at and puts her head on Clark's chest.] Honey, you don't want to make me unhappy, do you? It's a big adjustment. I feel insecure. I don't want to leave town.

Clark Kent: Lois, are you all right?

[End of scene.]

Timecode: 7 minutes, 46 seconds: Old building in which Lex Luthor holds the real Lois Lane captive. We see her still bound and gagged, tied to a chair.

Lex Luthor: All right, let's make a deal. I'll lower your gag, but if you so much as breathe the name "Superman," I'll paralyze your vocal cords. Now I can't get fairer than that.

[Lex Luthor brandishes a hyperdermic needle, presumably filled with some type of drug which he can use to make good on his threat. Lex Luthor lowers the gag that covered Lois Lane's mouth.]

Lex Luthor: Let's hear that lilting voice.

Lex Luthor: Oh, you finishing school girls.

Lois Lane: Lex, they're scouring the country for you. Your only chance is to turn yourself in and finish your time.

Lex Luthor: I was doing a double life sentence.

Lois Lane: You can catch up on your reading.

Lex Luthor: My Lois has turned cruel? Well, see, life in this ugly city wil do that. You'll be more chipper in the Alps.

Lois Lane: The Alps?

Lex Luthor: Yes, I have a wondrous fortress in the mountains. You can scream "Superman" all day long, but it'll get boring.

Lex Luthor: Well, yes, but you almost married me. So, obviously you're flexible. Lois, some component in that brain of yours finds me irresistible. Now, together, we will find that little clump of cells and awaken it.

[Lex Luthor leans forward and gently, tenderly kisses Lois Lane on the lips. As he pulls back from the brief kiss she spits on his face.]

Lois Lane: Don't ever do that again.

Lex Luthor: Did things change while I was away? People tied up in chairs begun to negotiate?

[Lois Lane stares at Lex Luthor coldly. He isn't pleased about being spat upon, but he continues to smile, continues to be hopeful about winning the heart of this woman he so adores (or is obsessed with).]

[The voice of the Lois Lane clone can be heard as she enters this secret hideout. The real Lois Lane is shocked when she sees her exact double walk into the room.]

Lois Lane: [to Lex] What have you done??

Lois Lane clone: I might make other mistakes.

Lex Luthor: But you won't, because Clark isn't going to suspect anything until she [the real Lois] is out of the country, is he? And because you're gonna find out everything about Clark Kent's friend Superman, aren't you? Anything taht will help me destroy him.

Lex Luthor: Oh, please don't do that. I can't bear it.

Lois Lane: And I thought this would be the happiest time of our lives.

Lex Luthor: Oh, but you can be happy, Lois. You just need to keep an open mind.

Timecode: 10 minutes, 51 seconds: Jimmy Olsen is looking on Lois Lane's computer for files relating to Lex Luthor, who everyone now knows recently escaped from jail. Jimmy and Perry White find a novel that Lois was writing, about a fictional down-on-her-luck lounge singer named Wanda Detroit, who sings for drinks at the docks.

Timecode: 11 minutes, 43 seconds: Clark Kent arrives home to find that his wife has been on a shopping spree. There are packages everywhere. The Lois Lane clone shows him her new outfit, something which is very youthful and girlish, not at all like what the real Lois Lane normally wears. The clone is obviously very immature. This is not surprising, considering she is only nine days old. Clark further hardly realizes that his wife is acting very different from the Lois he is familiar with. He is just trying to be sweet and make her happy and get her into the mood to finally consummate their marriage.

[When Clark's questions cause the Lois Lane clone is worried that she isn't making him happy, she asks him if she is. Clark assures her that he is happy and that everything is perfect, "except one thing." Clark shows her what that "one thing" is by taking her in his arms, kissing her, and carrying her into the bedroom.]

[When Clark Kent puts the Lois Lane clone down, she remembers Lex Luthor's instructions to her to find out everything she can from Clark about Superman. The Lois Lane clone tells Clark that the one thing that would make this evening perfect is if Superman is here. As Clark assumes that the clone is the real Lois, who already knows that he is Superman, he thinks that she wants him to don his Superman outfit as part of foreplay before making love to her. He is a little surprised by this, but doesn't think it's a big deal, so he changes into Superman. The Lois Lane clone is surprised, but manages to cover this up and act as if she already knew that he was Superman. Perhaps unaware of just why he brought her into the bedroom, the clone, thrilled to learn Clark is Superman, says she's hungry, and suggests they eat dinner now. Thus, yet another attempt by Clark Kent to make love to his wife for the first time is halted.]

[The Lois Lane walks out of the kitchen toward the bedroom. She briefly speaks to herself. She looks skyward as she does so. One might almost think she is addressing God or praying a prayer of gratitude, except being only nine days old and having been "raised" and trained only by Lex Luthor, it is unlikely that the clone has any religious training or belief. Obviously Lex has told her that he himself is God (as seen earlier in the episode). But Lex is certainly not here. The way in which she looks up toward the sky or ceiling when delivering this line may simply be a way to signify that she is thinking to herself, and not to saying anything that Clark can here.]

BELOW: The child-like Lois Lane clone is thrilled to learn that her husband Clark Kent is actually Superman, as she envisions using his powers to fulfill her materialistic desires:

Lois Lane clone: I'm Mrs. Superman! Oo! I can have anything I want! Cool!

[Whatever the significance (if any) of skyward manner in which the clone delivers this line, her words serve to show how the clone is very much a materialistic narcist who thinks about how being married to Superman will give her access to things and possessions. She seems not to care at all about Clark Kent himself. Perhaps the fact the she thinks he is "not her type" has closed her mind entirely to the possibility of thinking of him as a husband or romantic partner.]

Timecode: 14 minutes, 21 seconds: In Lex Luthor's Metropolis hideout, the camera focuses on packed suitcases. It looks like Lex Luthor is about the leave, to take Lois Lane to Switzerland.

Lex Luthor: I had that oufit made for you when we planned our wedding. I'm very pleased you decided to wear it.

[Lois Lane emerges from behind a curtain, wearing the elegant pantsuit outfit.]

Lois Lane: You were threatening me with a hypodermic needle. It seemed like the thing to do.

Lex Luthor: Oh. Well forgive me if I stare, but as twas in our past, your resless beauty stuns me. The fire in your eye. The pallor in your cheek. The sultry curve of your lip.

Lois Lane: It's nausea.

Lex Luthor: Heh. Do you know why I suffer such castigation at your hands? Hm? Because in a few hours, we'll be sealed off in that fortress in the Alps. You see, once my name and character were branded criminal, my outcast status allowed the true Lex to blossom. I was relieved at all pretense of respectability. I may be starting over, but on terms far easier to stomach. An empire of pure evil, created solely for the enrichment and glorification of us.

Lois Lane: You're insane.

Lex Luthor: You're melting already. And eventually you'll acclimate yourself to the seductive misuse of power. Every Lord needs a lady. Every poet, a muse. You'll be by side, Lois, where you've always belonged. Forever.

As far as they know, their son and his new wife are in Hawaii, enjoying their honeymoon in private. They are surprised when their son, in his Superman costume, flies in through the window.

Martha Kent: Let's just get these gifts sorted so our kids can return from their honeymoon to an organized place.

[Clark flies in through the window.]

Martha Kent: Clark? What are you doing here?

Superman: Here? Oh, you mean, "here" here. Now. Uh, well, there was, uh, a tidal wave in the Philippines. It needed looking into, so . . .

Superman: I'm telling you, Mom, it's like Lois is another person.

Martha Kent: So, you're saying you're living with an impostor?

[Superman nods his head yes, but then his mother's words sink in a bit more, and he realizes that maybe literally he is living with an impostor. For the first time, he realizes that with all the crazy things in their lives, including clones of the U.S. president and other people, it isn't unreasonable to think that the woman he married isn't the real Lois Lane, but is actually an impostor. End of scene.]

[Before going to Switzerland, Lex Luthor stops outisde a bank with Lois Lane. He explains that before they were married, he set up a $200 million dollar bank account in her name. He needs her to sign for the money so they can withdraw it. She asks what if she refuses. Lex Luthor explains he'll just "send in the clone." The clone arrives at their parked limousine, but she, too, is uncooperative. Now that she knows she is married to Superman, she asks Lex to leave her alone from now on, or she won't help him get the money in the Lois Lane account. Lex gets out of the car to deal with the clone. Lois takes the opportunity to shout for help, yelling "Superman!" Lex uses his hypodermic needle on Lois, paralyzing her vocal cords. Lois manages to get away, but she can't call Superman for help, even when she sees him rescuing some people from a subway fire. Lois Lane ends up almost getting hit by a car, and falls back, hitting her head on a fire hydrant. She loses her memory of who she really is, and thinks she is "Wanda Detroit," the sultry lounge singer character from the novel she had been writing a couple years ago.]

[When the Lois Lane clone shows up at work at the Daily Planet office, Clark finally figures out for certain that the clone is not the real Lois. But he can't prove it to anybody. He x-rays her ankle and sees that there is no fracture from when she broke it skiing. But he can't tell anybody about that, lest they realize that he has x-ray vision, which would mean he is really Superman.]

[Lois Lane ends up being quite a talented lounge singer, singing at a rough place down by the docks. Her real personality is completely buried beneath her fictional "Wanda Detroit" personality. Lex Luthor tries desperately to find Lois Lane.]

Timecode: 29 minutes, 47 seconds: At night time, Lex Luthor has tracked down the Lois Lane clone. He sees her as she comes out of a store where she was shopping. Lex Luthor grabs her and forces her against a wall, acting in a very threatening manner.

Lex Luthor: No, you don't make deals with me, frog-eater. You think I won't snap this traitorous little neck? I'm at rock bottom! The only thing I care about in this miserable existence is the woman I love. And neither you nor any force of nature is going to keep me from her.

Lois Lane clone: Let . . . go . . . of me.

[Lex Luthor, surprised at the way the clone is standing up for herself, releases her neck and steps back a couple steps.]

Lex Luthor: What have you done with her?

Lois Lane clone: I lost her. Your precious is out there somewhere. Don't worry, I'll find her.

Lex Luthor: You most certainly will.

Lois Lane clone: Find her and kill her.

Lex Luthor: No.

[The clone pulls a handgun out of her purse.]

Lex Luthor: What are you doing?

Lois Lane clone: What do you think I am? That wimp, Lois Lane? I'm a girl who gets what she wants. And I want Clark.

Lex Luthor: This is absurd. I am the Creator. You are the creature. Now, I command you to give me the gun.

Lois Lane clone: [laughs] Don't be ridiculous. If I give you the gun I can't shoot Lois. Duh.

Lex Luthor: [wagging his finger and shaking his head no.] You're not going to shoot Lois. You're not going to shoot me. You're going to give me the gun.

[The Lois Lane clone shoots Lex Luthor in the shoulder. He recoils back from her and holds his shoulder, writhing in pain.]

Lex Luthor: Oh!! You shot me!

[The Lois Lane clone looks at the gun, smiles, picks up her shopping bags, and walks away, leaving Lex Luthor stumbling in pain in the alley.]

Timecode: 31 minutes, 32 seconds: A montage sequence accompanied by soulful music. Superman flies over Metropolis and thinks about his situation, trying to find Lois Lane. Meanwhile, Lois Lane sings sultry songs at a waterfront watering hole as "Wanda Detroit." Lex Luthor nurses his wound in his dilapitaded hideout. The Lois Lane clone eats frogs while trying to track down the real Lois Lane. Superman thinks back on precious moments he has had with Lois Lane, in their path together toward becoming engaged and (almost) married.

Timecode: 34 minutes, 51 seconds: Clark Kent arrives at his apartment to find it has been ransacked by theh Lois Lane clones. She painted "LOIS DIES" on the refrigerator. Lex Luthor, holding his injured shoulder, emerges from another room.

Lex Luthor: It appears we both have our hands full.

[Clark Kent rushes toward Lex Luthor and slams him against the refrigerator.]

Clark Kent: Do you know how easily I could kill you?

Lex Luthor: Probably.

Clark Kent: Probably not.

[Lex Luthor does not know that Clark Kent is Superman.]

Lex Luthor: Unfortunately, we need each other.

Clark Kent: What have you done with her? Where is she?!

Lex Luthor: I replaced her, just before the wedding.

Clark Kent: What, you sent that thing to be with me? Where is Lois??

Lex Luthor: I lost her.

Clark Kent: Lost her?

[Clark shoves Lex Luthor onto the couch. Lex writhes in pain as as his injured shoulder is jostled painfully.]

Lex Luthor: Kent, you must hate me with more hate than you thought possible. But there's a larger issue. The clone's gotten it into her head to destroy Lois.

Clark Kent: What?

Lex Luthor: The replicants are childish by nature. They're always throwing tantrums, as you can see. [referring to the mess in Clark's apartment] Well, she's decided that she wants you and needs to eliminate the competition. [Opens his coat to give Clark a good luck at his blood-soaked shoulder.] I assure you, she means business.

[Clark Kent picks up the phone and starts dialing.]

Lex Luthor: What are you doing, you're calling the police? What, are you going to send me back to prison? Kent, the clock's ticking! We need each other! I know that clone's every move, and you - you're the only man on Earth who wants to find Lois as much as I do.

911 operator: [heard on phone] 9-1-1 Emergency . . . Hello?

[Clark Kent looks at Lex, mulls his words over. Then he hangs up the phone and sets it down.]

Clark Kent: I guarantee you, if anything has happened to Lois--

Lex Luthor: We're wasting time. The creature may have already found her.

[End of scene.]

Timecode: 37 minutes, 3 seconds: Clark Kent and Lex Luthor are still in Clark's apartment.

Clark Kent: You gave her what?!

Lex Luthor: A simple injection, to keep her from speaking. It's possibly why you haven't heard from her.

Clark Kent: [angrily] Lois would move Heaven and Earth to contact me! I know Lois.

Lex Luthor: Lest you forget, Kent, she was once my intended. The fact that I know some aspects of and you know others can be an asset in our search.

Clark Kent: When did you last see her?

Lex Luthor: Outside a bank. She had just kicked me in the jaw.

Clark Kent: Heh. That's Lois.

Lex Luthor: She's an amazing woman. I've never known anyone like her.

Clark Kent: Fearless.

Lex Luthor: Stupidly so at times.

Clark Kent: I try to get her to take it easy...

Lex Luthor: She won't listen. And when she's sad, she cries...

Clark Kent: You want to die.

Lex Luthor: Tell me about it.

[This is a special moment of genuine humanity between Lex Luthor and Clark Kent, these two rivals. They realize that despite their many altercations in the past, they share something deeply meaningful: They both love and appreciate Lois Lane.]

Lex Luthor: I'll help you find her, Kent. This one instance, you can trust me.

[Lex Luthor holds out his hand. Before Clark can shake it, there comes a knock at the door. It is Jimmy Olsen, telling him information that furthers the plot on toward its conclusion.]

[The Lois Lane clone almost kills Lois Lane, who still thinks she is Wanda Detroit. But Lex Luthor saves her, and convinces her that he is "Kent," the man from Lois Lane's novel who is the man of Wanda's dreams. In Lois Lane's novel, Wanda Detroit is harrassed by a man named "Clark." Lex Luthor uses this information to convince "Wanda Detrot" (really Lois) to tell Clark she doesn't love him and that she wants to leave with Luthor. Clark believes Lois Lane's words, but he isn't the kind of person to force her to go anywhere or be with anybody against her will. So he allows Lois Lane to leave with Lex Luthor, thinking that he (Lex) is the man of her (Wanda Detroit's) dreams.]

[After Lex Luthor drives away with Lois Lane, the Lois Lane clone walks up to Clark.]

Lois Lane clone: Well, I guess it's just you and me.

[End of episode. Roll closing credits.]
