Timecode: 3 minutes, 39 seconds: The offices of the Daily Planet. Lois Lane was just on the phone with the police department, trying to get information for a story she is working on. Jimmy Olsen walks up to her, repeating the last thing she said to the police.

Lois Lane: Didn't you mother teach you it's rude to eavesdrop? [Struggling to write with a pen.] What is with this pen?

Jimmy Olsen: It's not a pen.

Lois Lane: Jimmy, if this is some Zen parable about pens not being pens, and desks not being desks, I'm not in the mood.

Jimmy Olsen: It's a bug. I stuck it on your desk. Look, listen on this. Cool, huh? I got it at Spies-R-Us.

Timecode: 19 minutes, 27 seconds: Lois Lane and Clark Kent, independently of each other, have both come to the Stoke Club, a rock music dance club, to investigate the club's owner, Lenny Stoke. They suspect that Stoke may be connected to the mysterious "Sound Man," a villain who has been staging crimes in Metropolis using advanced audio equipment which he can use to do things such as induce sleep in people or bring Superman to his knees.

Lenny Stoke is a rock musician and is now singing music and playing a guitar, backed up by his band, on the main stage at the Stoke Club. Dressed as a music groupie, Lois Lane is near the front of the stage, being jostled by a crowd while pretending to be a Lenny Stoke fan. Her plan is to attrack Stoke's attention and get a chance to talk to him.

There has been no indication thus far that Lenny Stoke has any particular religious leanings, but some of the lyrics in the song he is singing feature religious terminology, particular the lines "Pray for me and absolution" and "There's too much sin and pain all around," as well as the song's reference to "Armageddon."

These are the lyrics to this song as we can hear them during this scene:

Try to penetrate my wall of sound
There's too much sin and pain all around
Awake my children, lost and found
And try to penetrate my wall of sound

Armageddon is all of you
While buildings burn, we are torn in two
I am the only solution
Pray for me and absolution

Try to penetrate my wall of sound
There's too much sin and pain all around
Awake my children, lost and found
And try to penetrate my wall of sound

[Long guitar riff]

As the dawn rises in the East
I welcome you to the feast

I am the only solution
Pray for me and absolution

Try to penetrate my wall of sound
There's too much sin and pain all around
Awake my children, lost and found
And try to penetrate my wall of sound

[Lenny Stoke does indeed notice Lois Lane, who manages to carve out a place for herself right in front of the stage, and then dances prevocatively. After the song is over, Lenny Stoke hands Lois his guitar pick.]

Timecode: 21 minutes, 43 seconds: A few minutes after Lenny Stoke finishes his song, we see him sitting at a table in his club, trying to woo Lois Lane (who is acting like an air-headed rock and roll groupie). Lenny is extolling a rather incomprehensible philosophy of life:

Lenny Stoke: You see, I think there gets to a point in a relationship . . . You know, one that's got this kind of immediate connection. But it's not about me - Lenny - and you . . .? What was your name again, darling?

Lois Lane: Linda.

Lenny Stoke: Right! Linda. Yes, of course. But my point is, Linda . . . that it's not about names, identities, nor the five or ten minutes we've known each other, my darling. Time is irrelevant. Something else is taking over.

Lois Lane: Wow! What?

Lenny Stoke: This.

[Lenny Stoke moves to kiss Lois Lane on the lips. Before he can, however, she "accidentally" spills her drink on him. After he cleans up a bit, but before he can begin extolling his philosophy again, Lenny Stoke's assistant comes to the table to tell him there is something important for him to attend to in his office. He excuses himself to take it in his backroom office, now realizing that Lois has planted the pen listening device in his vest.]

[A few moments later, we see that Lenny Stoke is the mysterious "Sound Man" who has been terrorizing Metropolis. Lenny sees on a news broadcast in which the mayor of Metropolis declares that the city will not succumb to the Sound Man's blackmail attempt, and is thus refusing to give him the 50% of all money in Metropolis banks that he asked for. Outraged that he is being refused, Lenny uses the keyboard in his office to send sound signals to the many speakers his henchmen have placed throughout the city. Lenny broadcasts a message to Metropolis, telling the city he intends to use his sound waves to knock down building after a building. He starts cranking up his sounds, but Superman arrives and puts a stop to the Sound Man's efforts by destroying the speakers.]

Timecode: 31 minutes, 22 seconds: Lois Lane and Clark Kent have come to an old ranger station in Echo Canyon to find Dr. Camden, one of the few people in the world with the expertise necessary to pull of the feats they have seen the "Sound Man" perform. As they approach the cabin, an obviously agitated and frightened Dr. Camden emerges from the cabin and points a gun at them.

Dr. Camden: Are you my appointment in Samarra?

Appointment in Samarra, published in 1934, is the first novel by John O'Hara. It concerns the self-destruction of Julian English, once a member of the social elite of Gibbsville. It is not entirely clear at this point what this statement has to do with the story. Lois Lane obviously has no idea what Dr. Camden is talking about.

Lois Lane: What?

Dr. Camden: Are you death, come to visit me?

Clark Kent: No, we're reporters. And you're Dr. Camden, right?

Dr. Camden: You-- You-- You work for him. You're his assassins.

Lois Lane: For God's sake, if we were his assassins, do you think we would've been this clumsy?

Clark Kent: [chuckles] She has a point.

[Lois Lane and Clark Kent continue approaching Dr. Camden. He allows them to. Cut to a few minutes later, after they have talked some.]

Clark Kent: So, those sounds that put people to asleep, blow things up . . . ?

Dr. Camden: [Pointing to his chest.] Here. All from my heart, my soul.

[Lois Lane notices that Dr. Camden is tapping his chest with the handgun he is still holding.]

Lois Lane: Doctor, be careful.

[Lois walks closer to Dr. Camden, perhaps thinking she should gently take the gun away from him before he accidently shoots himself.]

Dr. Camden: Don't touch me!

Lois Lane: Don't worry.

Clark Kent: Calm down. We're your friends. Stoke lied to you. He said he was your friend, just to get you out of the hospital. Then he stole your inventions, right?

Dr. Camden: No, no. He stole my dreams. He wants to keep my dreams. He wants-- He wants to end my body and and and keep my dreams.

Lois Lane: But Lenny Stoke is the Sound Man?

Dr. Camden: [shouting into the forest.] Thief! Killer! Destroyer!

Lois Lane: I'll take that as a yes.

Timecode: 33 minutes, 54 seconds: Later, Lois and Clark discuss what they should do now that they know for certain that Lenny Stoke is the Sound Man.

Lois Lane: I agree that a tactical police team could infiltrate Stoke's club and pull his plug. But do we really have enough evidence to go to them?

Clark Kent: Camden said that--

Lois Lane: The Nutty Professor? Come on.

Clark Kent: Okay, Lois. What do you have in mind? Something dangerous? Something reckless? The fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants plan guaranteed to get you killed?

Lois Lane: You could not be more wrong. We're not even gonna leave the car.

[Lois Lane turns on the listening device for the pen-based bug which is still in Stoke's vest, so that she can listen to whatever he is saying. She hears Stoke telling his henchmen to plant his special audio speakers around City Hall so that he can destroy the building. Lois Lane and Clark Kent infiltrate Lenny Stoke's club. While separated, Clark turns in to Superman. Lenny Stoke momentary takes Lois Lane hostage while protected from Superman's attack by a sound-based force field. But Superman is able to fly at super speed and "break the sound barrier" in order to penetrate Stoke's force field. Seeing that he is about to be apprehended, Stoke protests.]

Timecode: 40 minutes, 36 seconds:

Superman: Now, let's go for a little ride, Lenny.

Lenny Stoke: No, no. See, you don't understand. I have this problem. It's kind of a Rain Man thing. I-- I hate flying.

Superman: You'd hate it more if I dropped you, so you'd better hold still.

[Superman picks up Lennny Stoke and flies away with him to take him to jail.]

Timecode: 41 minutes: Cut to the outside of a downtown building, from which Perry White, Lois Lane and Clark Kent emerge wearing tuxedos and elegant evening wear. They were just attending the Kerth Awards ceremony, which honors achievements in journalism. Clark Kent was nominated for a prestigious award - an award which Lois has received three times in the past. This was the first time that Clark had been nominated.

Perry White: Ha ha! Oh, boy, what an evening! I tell ya', now I know exactly how the colonel felt when Elvis brought home that first gold record. [Perry points to Clark.] Clark, I'm so proud of you, I can't see straight.

Lois Lane: Not as proud as I am. That was a great speech.
