Anthropomorphic animals are characters who appear to be regular animals or cartoonish animals, but which have human traits and personalities. Such characters are staples of the "funny animal" genre and are commonly found in comics and cartoons intended for children or written for satirical or comedic purposes. Anthropomorphic animals are typically stand-ins for human characters and, as such, are indistinct from humans with regards to religiosity. Thus, "anthropomorphic animals" is not a true religious category per se, but more of a place-holder category. Because anthropomorphic animals are stand-ins for regular human people, it is not accurate to classify their religiosity as "not applicable," as is done with regular animals (such as pets). Were we to know more about any given anthropomorphic character, we might learn that he or she is Catholic or Jewish or Humanist or Buddhist or an adherent of any other regular Earth religion. Indeed, many anthropomorphic characters have an identifiable religion. For example, Theresa Duck (the sister of Howard the Duck) is a Catholic nun. Cerebus the Aardvark was a particularly religious anthropomorphic animal who eventually became the pope of his world's dominant religion, the Eastern Church of Tarim. In practice, the light-hearted, comedic or child-targeted nature of most "funny animal" stories usually precludes associating such characters with specific religious affiliations. But in principle, anthropomorphic animals are analogous to humans, and thus just as religious (or irreligious) as humans.
