The "Christian (generic)" category includes characters who truly are generic Christians and do not belong to any specific branch or denomination of Christianity. In practice, this includes very few characters: mainly 1st Century Christians and a few angels. First Century Christians are Christians who lived in the 1st Century A.D., before Christianity broke into different branches and denominations. In comics, this applies mainly to portrayals of Jesus Christ himself. "Christian (generic)" angels are angels who are clearly Christian (not merely generically Judaeo-Christian or generically Heaven-sent), and can not be said to represent a specific denomination. (Most angel characters are simply listed in the "angel" category and are not clearly associated with a specific religion.) It is very rare for comic book characters to be listed as generic Christians because most characters do not fit into these rare cases. Real people, even if they identify their religion simply as "Christian" can (if pressed) identify which "type" of Christian they are. Even the most inattentive Christian knows whether or not they are a Catholic, whether or not they are Eastern Orthdox, whether or not they are a Quaker, etc. Christians who are not Catholic or Orthodox, or belong to any other identifiable branch of Christianity are classified by religious scholars, demographers and this website as Protestants. Characters who are identifiably Christian but can't be classified further due to lack of information are listed in the "Christian (denomination unknown)" category.
